BA (Hons) International Business with Japanese

Japanese is the native tongue of the world’s second largest economy and is quickly developing as a second language around the Pacific Rim.

Rainbow Bridge KyotoWhy Combine Japanese and International Business?

By studying our BA (Hons) International Business with Japanese course, your career prospects are not limited to working only in Japan, but also other parts of Asia and those countries in which Japanese multinational organisations operate.

How will my international business career benefit from an understanding of Japanese?

Japanese post-war economic growth averaged 10% in the 1960s, 5% in the 1970s and 4% in the 1980s, sky-rocketing the Japanese economy into the global super league and ensuring it a place at the table when the Group of Six (later the G8) was created in 1975.

Yet an asset price bubble developed in tandem with this rapid economic growth and when it burst in the early 1990s, Japan underwent a “lost decade” of economic stagnation.  Growth since then has been difficult to reignite and the global financial crisis in 2008 has presented fresh problems.

Yet, despite these challenges, Japan’s economy remains one of the largest in the world, its innovative world class brands like Mitsubishi, Panasonic and Sony continue to lead rather than follow and The Fortune Global 500 ranking of top 500 corporations worldwide (as measured by revenue) still features 80 Japanese companies, the most famous and largest being Toyota Motor.  As an International Business graduate with advanced Japanese language skills, it will not be unrealistic for you to have companies like these in your sights when you come to looking for graduate employment.

Like many aspects of Japanese society, the Japanese conduct business in a very particular way.  Japanese business etiquette and indirect speech can seem impenetrable to foreign business people.  Our BA (Hons) International Business with Japanese degree will provide you with a thorough understanding of the culture and the language in order to ensure your future business ventures in Japan meet with success.
