Chinese is the largest official language in the world - about one-fifth of the world speaks Chinese as its native language – and is incredibly important language in today’s international business world.

The country’s economy has been growing at between 5-15% per year for more than thirty years. Even during the current economic downturn, international business investors continue to view China as a potential engine for economic growth, and Chinese speakers are needed for purposes of liaison and negotiation.

The country's contribution to the global economy continues to surpass expectations and creates new international business opportunities. Understanding the business environment and culture is key to conducting business in China – as is linguistic proficiency. Demand for graduates with strong international business acumen and Chinese linguistic competency continues to grow.

The BA (Hons) International Business degree offers you the exciting opportunity to undertake around 7 hours of Mandarin Chinese classes per week, in order to develop your linguistic proficiency. These classes are taught by native Chinese speakers.

We teach Chinese from beginner level, and no prior knowledge is required.

International Business & Chinese Language Course Details

You will undertake a study period abroad in China as part of your degree; during this time you will take international business classes taught in Chinese. Through undertaking related work experience and internships in China, you will also gain international business experience.

For example, according to the Fortune 500 Companies in China Directory 2009-2010, there are currently 5,500 Fortune 500 Company offices across China.

The knowledge and skills gained from the BA (Hons) International Business degree, coupled with fluency in Mandarin Chinese and personal understanding of Chinese business practice, will open up an exciting and diverse range of career options.
