Joanna Marcinak

Degree: MSc Global Banking and Finance
Nationality: Bulgarian

Joanna believes one main reason she has progressed quickly in her career is the unique learning environment and course structure of EBS London.

In the 24-year-old's own words: "EBSL turned my accumulated prior knowledge into something more practical. It also taught me how to challenge established positions and gave me a new, international perspective.

"It gave me the strength of character to take on harder challenges, the confidence to deal with new situations and the intellectual discipline to criticise, refine and improve the things I deliver."

It was a tough choice - slide smoothly into the City of London or hitch her wagon to the accelerating economic engine of the new EU states of Eastern Europe. She sounded out the best advice available before joining Deloitte in Sofia ad eventually securing post as a financial analyst late last year.

She's looking for a long-term future in the sector but has not set firm goals yet, other than being pleased to be with a leading organisation: She says "I would like to build on my softer skills, in particular project management. Being where I am really helps as there is a strong culture of active career management and personal development as well as excellent training."

But, having been through EBSL, those points are clearly ones she both values and is well acquainted with.

"I wanted to transfer to London as I felt it would be much more prestigious and rewarding...  I have no regrets whatsoever of making this most important choice in my life so far and am confident that it will catapult me on to a thriving a career path."
