EBS Scholars for 2009-10

The winners of the 2009-10 EBS London International Scholarships are:

From a field of nearly 30 written applications on six different subjects, the 6 short-listed candidates came to Regent’s College on Wednesday 15th July. They made presentations on their chosen topics before a panel and answered questions with a skill and confidence well in advance of their years.

The short-listed candidates were an equal gender split: three women and three men; and their national backgrounds were two from France, two from Germany, and one each from Luxembourg and Malaysia.

Panel Presentation

Although the scholarship panel had set six different questions for the candidates to write about, the short list focussed on just three of these: two candidates had chosen cultural awareness and language learning, two had picked the impact of the 2012 Olympics on London, and two had selected a business proposal for a new venture. Of the three winning candidates, two wrote and presented on languages and culture, and the other on a new business venture.

The full scholarship covers all tuition fees for the 31/2 year degree programme leading to the BA (Hons) degree in International Business or International Events Management and is worth over £40,000; likewise, the two half-scholarships cover half the tuition fees, worth about £20,000 each. These special prizes have been established to celebrate the international spirit of EBS London. The scholarship panel looked for entries and presentations that were interesting, well-researched, creative and thought-provoking.

Setting a High Standard

All six presentations were very good – professional, intelligent, well structured and well argued. For the panel, it was very difficult to separate the top three from the others and the panel would like to congratulate all the candidates for very good performances in the presentations and the Question and Answer session that followed.

The scholarship panel consisted of Nicholas Bowen (Programme Director BAIB, EBS London), Erik Manning (Head of Admissions, Regent’s College), Richard Mannix (Deputy Programme Director BAIB, EBS London), and Svetla Tihcheva (Senior International Office, EBS London). In addition, the scholarship lunch was attended by Khilna Dhanani (Admissions Officer, EBS London), Marie-Anne Martin (Head of Student Recruitment Marketing, Regent’s College), and Sartou Djibril (a current student at Regent’s College).

The Winners

EBS London and Regent’s College welcome Tim Cholibois, Nicolai Mueller, and Khadi Rachel Bangoura to the campus. We wish them all a fruitful association with their fellow students and staff over the next 31/2 years and a successful career once they have graduated from their first degree programmes.
